Advocacy Alerts
The most recent Advocacy Alerts will be posted here, updated weekly. Each advocacy alert includes a brief description of what is happening with the bill in question (usually just a sentence or two), followed by a sample letter that you can copy and paste into an email. If a bill is being heard in committee, you will see the emails for each of the committee members. Sending a single email addressed to all of the committee members is helpful, but going through the time of sending a single email to each member is even better. You can still copy and paste each of these emails, changing the names for each email sent. Other alerts will ask you to contact your representatives. If you are not familiar with your local state representatives, you can easily find them by clicking this link. Once you know your representatives, you can simply copy and paste the sample letter, add the names and send it.
4/8/25 - URGENT Advocacy Alert for SB25-276
This bill just came to our attention. It was recently introduced and is scheduled to be heard by the Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee today, Tuesday, the 8th. It is SB25-276, "Protect Civil Rights Immigration Status”. It seems to be an attempt to beef up as many protections for immigrants as possible, especially when involved at any level in the legal system.
Sample Letter:
Dear _________,
Please support SB25-276, “Protect Civil Rights Immigration Status”. At this time when immigrants are being targeted for detention and deportation for the flimsiest and sometimes illegal reasons, it is imperative that we strengthen our protection for the legal rights of immigrants, whether documented or not. This bill extends many protections already on the books and adds some increased protections for those dealing with the legal system at any level. I speak for the members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal
Church when I state that we have a moral obligation to treat anyone in this country with dignity and respect and to do all we can to prevent their exploitation at the hands of those in authority. Please support SB25-276.
With respect,
